News: 2017 - 2018 Season

Nearly 400 grade 7 and 8 boys and girls on 33 teams took to the rugby pitches at Fraser Middle and Yale on Friday to compete in the annual ARFC City Sevens Rugby tournament. Athletes competed in 6 different divisions for the city titles and tournament trophies. There was a fastest runner competition and MVP t-shirts distributed to an impact player from each team.

There were many competitive games throughout the day. The grade 7 girls’ division saw Clayburn defeat Abby Middle in the final. In the grade 7 boys’ division, Fraser Red edged Fraser Black in the final. The grade 8 girls had two tiers. Fraser Black edged Yorkson in a competitive Tier 1 final to take the cup while Fraser Red defeated Howe in the Tier 2 final to bring home some hardware. The grade 8 boys’ Tier 1 final went into overtime, with Yorkson Creek scoring the sudden death decider to top Fraser Black. In Tier 2, Reimer defeated Clayburn White with a last second try to secure the 1st place trophy.

The Abbotsford Rugby Club is very appreciative of all coaches, managers, referees, players and supporters who took time from their school day to attend the event. Special thanks to Doug Primrose and the Yale Leadership crew who ran many aspects of the event. We wish all teams the best of luck in the remainder of their seasons!
